EDC came into being as the result of the expansion of the Educational Project Office formed on 6th October 1979.

Initially the work of EDC included the whole spectrum of educational development work:

During the past couple of decades some of the work areas grew large enough to justify their existence as separate and independent institutions and were taken off from the mandate of EDC. Similarly new areas of work are seen emerging and flourishing on the contemporary platform of EDC.

This year, 2009, has brought new changes to the structural organisation of EDC. There are new sections included in the EDC sector.

Current events:

Conducting life skills Education at Thaajudin school, Iskandar school, Imaadudin school (for students) from February  2009 until May 2009.

6th April- Curriculum developers and other officials' meeting to barinstorm on life skills.

10th-16th April-Facilitator training workshop at R.Duvaafaru.

International consultant for life skills project is currently in Maldives to review the project.

Life skills Education sessions held in Maafanu Madarsa, Ameer Ahmed and for students at CCE (Februray to May).
