Educational Development Centre (EDC) is the professional hub of the Ministry of Education. EDC came into being as the result of the expansion of the Educational Project Office formed on 6th October 1979.

Initially the work of EDC included the whole spectrum of educational development work: curriculum development, educational material production, teacher training, non-formal community education, educational broadcasting and school construction and upgrading.

During the past couple of decades some of the work areas grew large enough to justify their existence as separate and independent institutions and taken off the mandate of EDC. Similarly new areas of work are seen emerging and flourishing on the contemporary platform of EDC.
