Professional Development Activities
PDU organizes the following professional development activities for schools:
Workshops (for both trained and untrained teachers)
Mentoring and guidance to school leaders and supervisors
Clinical supervision of teachers
English language and methodology courses for primary teachers (first course starts June 2007)

Projects
Child Friendly Primary Schools Project (funded by UNICEF) – implemented in 105 primary schools across the country
Planned activities include:
- distribution of teaching-learning materials to change the physical environment of grade 1 – 3 classrooms
- basic training on CFS approach to teachers and supervisors
- advocacy on CFS approach to all primary school heads
- parent awareness programmes
- workshops on classroom management
- workshops on active learning
- workshops on assessment
- teachers’ camp
TRC Project – establishing a Teacher Resource Centre in every atoll
Planned activities include:
- Distribution of equipment and resources for TRCs
- E-learning through Virtual Learning Environment
- Individual professional development programmes conducted by each TRC
